"Lack of care from ambulance officers and staff at Ipswich Public Hospital."

About: Ipswich Hospital

(as a relative),

In late November my husband had a serious accident at home. Two people called for an ambulance and I called again as it took over 30 minutes to arrive and he was losing a lot of blood. We were taken to Ipswich Public Hospital where my husband was put in a ward and given pain relief and an X-ray. He was then left for 4 hours until we saw a doctor. I assume the doctor and nurse were told it wasn't too serious as it looked to me like they were preparing to stitch my husband up there and then. When they removed the bandage the ambulance officers had put on and the nurse got covered in blood from one of his severed arteries I think then they realized how serious this was and called a surgeon. The surgeon came down pretty quickly had a look at the wound and said he needs surgery ASAP. I then heard them all saying why was he sent to this ward, he needs surgery right away etc., etc.? After approx 4 hours of surgery I get a phone call from the surgeon, who was very nice from my whole experience, saying my husband had severed 2 major arteries and all his tendons and a nerve. They couldn't fix it all at Ipswich Hospital, so he had to be transferred to the PA for a hand specialist to operate. We were treated very poorly due to the extent of his injury in my opinion and I will be taking this as high as I can, especially when we have private health insurance. When I said we wanted to go 'Private' the nurses attitude changed quick smart and she told me she wasn't stopping me from taking him.
