"My Father - John Hunter Hospital Newcastle NSW"

About: John Hunter Hospital

(as a carer),

My father has been in hospital having had an accident losing his balance and cutting his toe and fractured it. The ambulance took him to JHH. He had an x-ray - results show he has fractured his toe. Orthopaedic doctor came and suggested no surgery because of his health condition, he wrote the prescription and sent it off to the pharmacy at 4. 30pm. My father was in all day and had been waiting for the prescription to turn up. I went to pick my father up at 5. 53pm, the nurse said still waiting for prescriptions to come, I asked what time does the pharmacy close, he said 6pm. Ok, I'll wait for it to come…. 6. 30pm no success. The nurse had difficulty tracking down the pharmacy or someone because it already closed at 6pm. So, the nurse had been chasing up an available doctor to re-write the prescription and wasn't too sure how long would it be. I left to go home after 7pm because my husband had to work early in the morning. My brother was over there waiting with my father. My father was on his way home (7. 45pm) with my brother.

This pharmacy should have finished off all prescriptions before closing up. They are responsible for holding us up.
