I had a caesarean section and was in hospital  for a few days. Whilst meeting/bonding with my new born, learning how to feed, trying to recover and have my family and friends meet our new bundle of joy, I had quite a few interactions with very rude PSA's (Patient Service Assistant). Some wouldn't knock before entering, leaving me in some embarrassing and awkward situations, not acknowledging me at all upon entering and deliberately placing water and meals the other side of the room when I was bed ridden. The fourth trimester is a very exhausting and emotional time for any new mum and I feel as though I deserve a little bit more respect in this hard new step of becoming a mother.

Firstly congratulations on the birth of your baby and thank you for taking time out to share your experience on Patient Opinion. I am sorry that you experienced our service in this way as this is not reflective of the high standards we strive to provide and our core values - caring with empathy, respect, courtesy and kindness.

I have discussed your story with Derek Fraser, Geraldton Hospital Operations Manager and we will do some work with the PSA team focusing on supportive and respectful assistance specifically around approaching and assisting women who have given birth. Some of the art of providing health care is negotiating our way into and out of your personal space and keeping you comfortable while we do that. WACHS Midwest values feedback like yours as it allows us an opportunity to improve our service. Please be assured of our commitment to address the issues you raised.
