"A hurtful comment and attitude while in the middle of having a caesarean"

About: Mater Mothers' Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

I was in theatre as my baby was a breech. As my baby came out, I heard them cry which was great, but I myself was flooded with hormones and chemicals released following the delivery. This completely overwhelmed me and it took me the rest of the procedure and recovery to overcome the flood effect it was having on me. The midwife at one point put my baby on me to 'bond' however I could only manage this for a very short time. I said that I needed time to get through this flood of hormones and chemicals. A midwife wanted me to start breastfeeding immediately, regardless of me personally. I believe they showed no concern for my welfare. Then as my baby was taken off me to a waiting crib the midwife had the nerve to say - oh not another bottle fed baby.

This was the most hurtful, upsetting thing to say at the most inappropriate time. I did not feel considered or respected or like they had any concern for my welfare.

As for my baby, they are thriving on bottle formula. My baby and I are not stressed; they go to sleep and always have a full belly after every feed. They recently had their vaccinations with no ill effects. They are gaining weight and just glowing.

I want that midwife to comprehend the inappropriate conduct they displayed to me.
