(as a relative),

My elderly parent was admitted to the new Albany Hospital which is wonderful. However after 5 days of not being able to see outside of the room which did have a window, my parent was quite depressed. They said it was like being in a dungeon. The blinds inside the window are closed and don’t operate. There are several windows in this state and patients can’t see outside their rooms. Why can’t these windows be fixed to improve the well-being and mental health of patients?

Dear Dungeon

Unfortunately as the blinds across the hospital are a functional part of the double glazed window and we cannot repair the blind component on its own, rather we must replace the window unit as a whole.

We have replaced a number of faulty windows/blind units across the hospital with others scheduled for replacement during 2018.

I am sorry that your parent was in one of the rooms with the faulty blinds, we understand that for many this can be unpleasant. We do everything we can to ensure the best care is provided during an admission to hospital and if possible will move patients to other rooms. I am sorry this was not possible for your parent.
