I fell into the turbulent turmoil that is addiction when I was around 25. As with many, I succumbed to the lure of oblivion that makes the need to reach for something even more salient.
I have come a long way since then. I still struggle daily, on a minute to minute basis with this, however I have found hope in a relatively new philosophy, Acceptance and Commitment Treatment.
I attended a 6 week course held by Communify which expounded the basics of this incredibly simple but so effective treatment, and I feel like I am emerging from a cacoon.
As I learn to accept my feelings, possibilities emerge. The key behind ACT is values - what is important to the individual...and then not getting caught up in whatever it is that is holding back, but emerging stronger than ever...as you learn to accept!
I highly recommend this treatment for anyone who struggles with mental health or addiction or a combination of them too.
