"Acute Care Team"

About: The Prince Charles Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a carer),

My spouse was recently at the Emergency Department to see the Acute Care Team. She was then taken back to the same department by an ambulance the following night, as my spouse was trying to harm them-self.  They were then discharged during the night while still under the influence.  It would be in the records.

I have contacted the team at Prince Charles again and I believe all they have done is defend their actions and say that it was right to send my spouse home even though they still were feeling suicidal.

If something happens to my spouse because of what I believe is lack of actions, I believe it will be a public system failing my spouse.   We have been working towards a Mental Health Plan, but in my opinion, the Acute Care Team does not help.

Hi. Thank you for the response. Hopefully this is actually viewed by people that can effect change.

The thing is I logged my complaint with you after having contacted the acute care team to tell them my concerns after my wife had harmed herself again, and they knew this. Please listen to the call, if it is logged. It is not pretty from my wife, however bear in mind she felt abandoned by people who are meant to assist you.

Maybe the Mental Health team doesn't have the resources to deal with the volume of people, or maybe they don't care enough anymore?

What I know is there had been no follow up contact after being discharged. Maybe they are too busy? But realistically I think there has been no follow up contact by anyone at anytime as they don't want to have to become involved and deal with another person who is struggling. It seems that if the person doesn't kill themselves, and doesn't bother to come back, then they have done their job and judged the situation correctly. Behaviour enforced. (?)

If the person comes back more damaged (emotionally or physically) then it can be assessed again. In my view - of course it was not their fault for sending them away in the first place, as the person in front of them has escalated further that is why they are back.
