"Wonderful speech therapy appointment"

I took my child for a check up of their speech development recently at Collie Hospital. I was very happy to be able to arrange an early morning, before school appointment as I am a working mother and would have struggled to get time off work to make an appointment at a different time. Quite often I am unable to attend things due to some organisations not being flexible, so I was very happy to find the hospital was helpful in this area. I imagine before school appointments would be beneficial for all parents of school aged children and not just working parents.

During this speech appointment I met with Sue-Maree, who I felt was lovely. She provided a lot of information in regards to my child's individual development, and also quickly observed some physical indicators that led to her doing an immediate ear test that in return ended up indicating there was an inner ear issue. I was completely unaware of this and was very grateful for Sue-Maree's expertise as this would have potentially continued to have gone unnoticed. I immediately felt terrible as a mother for not realising my child's ear issue, but Sue-Maree was very quick to normalise this for me and relay the fact that it is very common and easily missed. So I was relieved and thankful to hear that.

I was also very grateful for Sue-Maree's professional and effective approach and interaction with my child, which in turn allowed for a thorough and enjoyable assessment of my child's personal speech patterns and development, for both myself and my child.

We now have some great tips and practice techniques to work on and I have some interesting reading material that Sue-Maree passed on to me, which is helping me to further understand how to best understand and support my child's needs.
