"Day Surgery"

About: Armadale Hospital / Same Day Unit

(as the patient),

I was admitted through the ER for day surgery the following day at Armadale Hospital.

My experience in the ER was ok - the triage nurse on duty misunderstood my condition so when I was seen by the nurse afterwards they had a different idea of my situation (a very sensitive one at that!). After that, the treatment was relatively speedy and I was booked for day surgery the following day.

This was my first time ever being admitted to hospital and once I was on the ward, the treatment from all the nurses was amazing. Each and every one of them made me feel comfortable and cared for. The anaesthetist was also very calming. Overall, very impressed with the care from everyone in the Same Day Unit team.

Dear K08

Thank you getting in touch and sharing your story with us about your recent treatment at Armadale Hospital.

I am so pleased to hear how positive you felt about your day surgery treatment especially given this was your first admission. Receiving treatment in hospital can be an anxious time and I am glad to hear that our staff made your experience as calm and comfortable as possible.

Our staff pride themselves on delivering great care while upholding our values of kindness, respect and professionalism and I am delighted that these values were reflected by the team. I will certainly pass on your wonderful praise to them and ensure their efforts are recognised throughout the hospital.

I would also like to apologise that the triage nurse in the Emergency Department (ED) had initially misunderstood your condition. As a result of your feedback, our ED Nurse Unit Manager will be exploring strategies with the triage team to enable clearer communication with patients particularly when discussing sensitive medical conditions in a discreet manner.

Thank you again for taking the time to write to us and for sharing your experience with us.

Yours sincerely

Diane Barr
