My sibling and I took our elderly parent to casualty recently in excruciating pain in their back to the point that even the car movement made the pain even worse. Our parent is already very unsteady on their feet, so we had a fear of them falling and having the pain could make them even more unsteady.
We got our parent in to see the doctor; they gave painkillers which eased the pain slightly, but every movement was sharp pain again. I asked for an MRI and more investigation.
I was told to take our parent home, call the doctor the next day to organise our MRI. I’m thinking we have to move them from the hospital to the car, back in bed, then back to the doctor the next day, then back in the car, then wait for the appointment for MRI to be done 4 days later. By that time no painkiller or anti-inflammatory was cutting the pain, they were still in bad pain. I’m disgusted if this is how the elderly get treated, shame on you. We pay top health cover, which seems to me to obviously mean nothing, and being elderly still doesn’t mean anything. Makes us very sad.
