I was referred by a specialist at Royal Perth Hospital to orthopaedics Fiona Stanley Hospital requesting that the clinic make inserts for my shoes. I have a number of issues with my feet:
* A bad big toe, so I need shoes that are open at the toe
* Big bunions
* Bad ankles
* Flat feet
The clinic at FSH is able to make the inserts I need for my shoes, but I can't buy any shoes that are appropriate for the needs of my feet and the clinic doesn't make shoes for the inserts.
To make things more difficult I am a size 11 and very few shoes come in size 11. I used to be able to buy the appropriate shoes from Spendless Shoes, but they no longer import them because people weren't buying them - except for me. Spendless also can't order just one pair for me. Spendless has the rights to the production of this shoe, so I can't by the same shoe anywhere else.
I need an open toe and lace up shoes because of the difficulties I have with swelling in my ankles as a result of a previous accident. I also need the inserts to keep my feet straight, so they don't roll in.
It's not Fiona Stanley's fault, I wish the referring specialist had thought about the fact that the clinic is able to make the necessary inserts that I need for my shoes. But without the appropriate shoes to fit the inserts, I can't use the inserts anyway. I would like to know what I am supposed to do given I can no longer purchase the shoes I need for my feet and will also fit the inserts. I am a pensioner, but that is beside the point - if I was able to get the shoes, I would buy them.
"What do I do now?"
