"Care within the North Metropolitan Health Service"

About: Osborne Park Hospital Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital

(as the patient),

Good evening,

I’d like to acknowledge the First Class customer service, care, professionalism and kindness of all North Metropolitan Hospital Services. Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH) Orthopaedic Clinic staff in E Block, the front line clerks, Clinic nurses (special mention to Mish the Wednesday nurse involved in the Ortho Clinic), Dr Richard and the clinical team under him during my personal journey through our public health system.

Similarly, all Osborne Park Hospital (OPH) staff involved from my initial contact in the pre-admission clinic 3 weeks earlier, being greeted by smiling clinic clerks right through to seeing the anaesthetist, nurses and physiotherapists discussing my future care plan. Followed by a pre-admission education evening to prepare us for our imminent admissions and collect crutches and  occupational therapy equipment for home post surgery.

My admission in the morning at OPH was simply a mirror experience as mentioned above. OPH Staff were all thorough and fully explained my future surgery journey and what to expect.

The clinic clerks, nurses, PSAs, registrars, the entire Multi-disciplinary Team  (MDT) here at OPH are amazing, cool, calm and collected, smoothly working through and ticking all the boxes required in the sea of paperwork involved.

Dr Richard, I believe his reputation as one of the best if not ‘The’ best, Orthopaedic Surgeon, precedes him, but he remains a humble genius in his specialty of choice.

Any food served after 30 hours without food would be well received, but my large serve of Shepherds Pie with fresh vegetables, fresh tropical fruits, i.e. pineapple, water and honey dew melons and yoghurt so delicious and to top it off a cup of hot tea and fresh banana cake. It was like delicious home cooking all served and removed with a smile.

I endured a what was in my opinion a horrid experience last year through East Metropolitan Health Service at Royal Perth Hospital and therefore feel it timely and warranted to acknowledge great service within our SCGH & OP NMHS group.

FYI Tony, before I was anaesthetised, I reminded all OPH theatre staff to remove their scrubs before they leave work due to the debt being incurred by NMHS via Spotless for missing scrubs, hoping to spread the word :)

Kindest regards.

Update posted by Foxyroxy59 (the patient)

Dr Murphy,

Thank you for taking time to respond to my opinion posted after my recent surgery.

I have been discharged from OPH and arrived home complete with a comprehensive Discharge Summary, all medications prescribed clearly listing dosage and frequency required, appointments booked with HITH to arrive in the morning to change my dressing, Outpatient Physio in a fortnight’s time, and Orthopaedic OP appointment for 6 weeks, all received without having to ask or chase up.

My sincerest thanks to all staff on Ward 6 Sth Wing from the cleaners, PCAs, allied health professionals, nursing staff and medical team with a special mention to nurses Jenny on night shift, Lenka and her trainee Curtin, nurse Afra who ensured my pain and comfort were under control at all times.

This was a truly holistic customer service experience.

Thank you again and with kind regards

Foxyroxy59
