"Box Hill Hospital Pharmacy"

About: Box Hill Hospital

(as the patient),

I was give a script by my doctor in hospital. I went to the pharmacy and felt staff were very reluctant to help. They told me that the medication was not available at first and when I told them I did actually see it the day before, the pharmacist goes - let me check again- and there and behold they found it.

Then the pharmacist told me that preparation of the medication will take a long time and it is better for me to go to a private chemist. When I said I am happy to wait it seemed the pharmacist took forever to prepare it even it was not a busy time. Then half way through another lady comes and says they have to dispense the medication in 14 patches, which would cost me $6.40 X 14.

I believe this very disappointing and unethical. I wish someone cares to check.

Dear Sick Person

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with the staff within the pharmacy department at Box Hill Hospital. I would like to apologise for what is not an experience we would want to have.

Based on your experience there is a lot we can learn and I would therefore like to share your comments with the Program Director of Pharmacy so it can be used to learn from with the aim of working out how things can be improved.

I hope you received your medication for your ongoing care and trust you are recovering from your stay in hospital.

All the very best and kind regards

David

Dear Sick Person

Thank you again for your feedback. As I mentioned previously, your feedback provided us with the opportunity to reflect and learn.

Your experience has been shared with the pharmacy team to reinforce that staff should treat patients and families using the Eastern Health values of Patients First, Kindness, Respect, Excellence, Agility and Humility. Along with this the pricing grid for the cost of edications has again been highlighted to ensure staff are fully aware and can inform patients and families of any charges.

I hope you have recovered from this episode in hospital and wish you the very best of health.

Kind regards

David
