He loves gardening and doesn't wear gloves (he does now) and overnight discovered that he had somehow got an infection in his forefinger on the right hand.
As he is a type 2 diabetic, I immediately sourced an appt with a local GP. Intramuscular (IM) Antibiotics were prescribed, but next afternoon was obvious they were not working so I took him back.
The GP called Bass Coast Hospital ED to ask if OK to send hubby there for IV antibiotics - OK, send him across. We were seen in ED and I found the doctors, nurses & staff really helpful, friendly and compassionate. As it turns out, a course of IV antibiotics was needed which would result in either; a stay in hospital or daily trips for treatment or Hospital in the home. Hospital in the home it was.
I cannot say enough good things about this new concept. The nurses were fantastic. They came to our home, administered the IV infusion saving us a lot of time in travel and waiting for treatment in the hospital itself. What a brilliant format for rural patients. Well done Bass Coast Health - keep up the great work.
