Recently I completed a 12 week program at Wattlegrove Rehabilitation Clinic NSW. The REP in program taught me a lot - as they say gave me lots of tools for my tool bag to help with my ongoing recovery. I can not fault the program or the help and support given by care staff onsite - and the community links that were put in my path, i.e. Smart Groups, Likemind Counselling and AA meetings in Orange.
What I feel is lacking is ongoing 24 hour support for the initial - on leaving rehab and going home - unless you go into a halfway house - there seems to be no transition period program / support offered. I have a Care Plan in place for help, but sadly often phones are not answered or are business hours only - an unanswered call to a Health Care worker can have a negative effect on a recovering alcoholic with a history of depression.
I am committed to staying focused on one day at time - and I know that recovery is a lifestyle. I feel that there is a gap in the Health System for this transition period on leaving rehab for a life of recovery
"Committed to staying focused on one day at a time."
