I have been on the public wait list for a cataract procedure for about a year. I received a phone call from the Sydney Eye Hospital advising that there had been a cancellation and would I like to take the appointment? Of course, I jumped at it and took it.
A week later, I was in hospital being prepped for the procedure. At all times, the staff kept me briefed and updated as to what was happening. The nursing staff who dealt with me were exceptional - caring, helpful and continually informing me what was happening. They made me feel comfortable and relaxed despite the fact this was a potential scary situation that I had not experenced before.
The anesthetist was wonderful - she made me feel very comfortable and even made me laugh a few times. The theatre staff were great too, although I only briefly chatted to them before the surgery.
All went smoothly and before I knew it, I was down in recovery. Again, the nursing staff made me comfortable and took their time with me. They kept an eye on me until my friend came to collect me.
I was truly impressed and knocked out by the service and the procedure in what is, essentially, a public hospital. I cannot fault my experience at all.
