Next day after giving birth to twins, and a first time mum, I experienced severe postnatal depression/anxiety and panic attacks. I hadn't eaten or slept, and experienced these symptoms for 4-5 days prior to requesting to be discharged. In this time I received minimal help from staff, no help in breastfeeding or learning to and I felt staff completely ignoring my mental state. I kept telling staff I was not okay, but all I received was a volunteer who talked at me for 10 minutes then left. I then left the hospital to seek help elsewhere. I have since been incapacitated with PND. I feel angry now that I have had the time to process all that happened to me and what I believe was the lack of care by the hospital.

I am deeply saddened to learn of your difficult experience after the birth of your twins at St John of God Midland Hospital. Our hospital strives to provide a high standard of antenatal and postnatal care and it is disappointing that you felt you did not receive the care you required during your admission on all occasions. Our Midwife Manager would appreciate the opportunity to speak with you and discuss your ongoing concerns as we place great importance in identifying and providing support for our new parents who may be experiencing signs of postnatal depression.
