"More than 3 hours waiting in pain after an accident."

About: Sydney / Sydney Eye Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I had a bad accident and I had my eyes injured, so I went to Sydney Eye Hospital in pain and I waited more than 3 hours to see a doctor. Everyone that arrived after me saw the doctor before me. I asked the nurse many times how much longer would it take, the only answer I had was I had to wait for the doctor to call me.

I was felling very disrespected and neglected.

In my opinion, the hospital don’t care about patients and the service is very poor. It’s the only eye hospital emergency in the area, so I had to go there. It’s a shame a hospital, in my view, doesn't care about people in pain. I found the second nurse to be very rude and I felt judged me because my accident. What a very disrespectfully thing to do with a patient.

Dear Fdg

I would like to acknowledge and apologise that your experience in the Emergency Department was disappointing and less than satisfactory. I will ensure that your story is shared with the Emergency Department management and team. Your insight and feedback is very valuable as it allows staff an opportunity to reflect on the care they provide improving the experience for future patient's.

If you wish to discuss further, I welcome you to contact me on SESLHD-SSEHExecutiveServices@health.nsw.gov.au with your contact details.

I wish you well in your recovery.

Kind regards

Jennie
