"Both sons admitted from emergency with reactive airway disease"

I took my eldest son to the emergency ward at Ipswich Hospital, Qld, after he couldn't breathe and wasn't responding to Ventolin puffers at home.  He was promptly seen to by the nurse and sent through to Resus.  He was then transferred over to paediatric emergency and later admitted to the Paediatric ward (the Sunshine Ward).  I stayed overnight with him and we were both very well looked after.  Everything was thoroughly explained to me - his asthmatic symptoms (what to look for), his management plan and his medications.  

After one night at home, my youngest son was experiencing a horrible cough, but with similar asthmatic symptoms.  After he wasn't responding to Ventolin at home, I took him to emergency.  Again, he was promptly seen to, sent to Resus and then paediatric emergency.  He was admitted and looked after very kindly by the nurses and doctors.

I felt like I had failed both of my boys, and I felt I may have looked silly going back to hospital with a different child. But everybody was so understanding and thoughtful when talking to me and explaining the difference between the boys and their new asthma management plans and medication.

I cannot stress enough how fantastic the paediatric and emergency nurses and doctors were to us!
