Recently, we welcomed our little baby boy into the world at Geraldton Regional Hospital, Western Australia.
For a first time Mum, this was a surreal and terrifying experience full of questions and overwhelming emotions. I had done my extensive research on labour throughout my pregnancy, but nothing could prepare me for the situation I found myself in.
A short 3-hour labour meant things moved far quicker than expected, faster than my rational mind could keep up with. I relied entirely on the instructions and guidance from my midwives, and they were incredible!
They chatted me through every moment in a calm manner, respected my right to make my own decisions and ultimately coached me through the most painful experience of my life. My midwife, Brooke, knew exactly what I needed at every moment and I totally relied on her. I had to trust that she knew better about what was happening to my body and she totally came through for me.
I am so in awe of the knowledge, experience and bedside manner of the midwives at Geraldton Regional Hospital. We are so lucky to have such an amazing service available to us here.
I would love to say a final thank you to Brooke. Her honesty and dedication to her work is to be admired in someone so young. She knows why she’s in the business of delivering babies and she is the reason why I have a healthy boy in my arms right now. We just love her and wish her all the best in her journey as a midwife!
"The birth of my baby boy!"
