These are the words of my niece... Families need more to be able to trust our health professionals... Isn't that why you chose to go into a particular profession?
If I could give lower than 1 star believe me I would do it!
My mum has been struggling with depression and anxiety for over 20 years and the last month has been a struggle for her. She has always been told to go to the ED if she feels she just can’t handle it anymore. She hates the hospital because they make her feel stupid and uncomfortable. My brave mum built up all this courage over a few hours, after her psychologist cancelled their appointment, to drive herself the 20 minutes to the hospital by herself. She saw the nurse who then organised a psychiatric nurse to talk to her. Poor mum shaking and crying explained in detail how she was feeling to this psychologist who just turned and said come back later if you want. As if anyone would come back after that!! All that time waiting and seeking help for what?! To be sent home! If someone came in with a broken leg I’m 100% certain they wouldn’t be sent home to come back later if they want! Mental health is such a scary and intense thing to go through alone and that one little bit of security my mum had in the back of her mind was ED. How disgusted I am to figure out that now that bit of security is gone.Absolute shocking!Clearer reasoning has to be given, at least to a family member..., or more effort and time. We all realise mental health demands it.
