"Bass Coast Emergency Department"

(as a parent/guardian),

My young adult son had inflamed, infected sores and pustules on his hands with obvious swelling, presented at Bass Coast Emergency Department. After being triaged, we waited 3 hours to be seen by a doctor for no more than 5 minutes. During that time the doctor wrote a prescription for antibiotics, no pain relief or diagnosis offered. Within 8 hours the inflammation and pain had increased with nausea and vomiting. He refused to go back to Bass Coast stating he was too sick to wait. We presented at local urgent care (unfunded). Upon arrival the doctor was called and arrived within 15 minutes. During that wait time observations were done, swab done and IV line in. IV antibiotics were commenced upon the doctor's arrival, along with pain relief. Prescription for pain relief and anti-nausea medication given. Diagnosis of staphylococcus. 

I feel disappointed that we weren’t given better care or treatment at Bass Coast. We appreciate they were busy and we can understand the wait time. But surely we could of been given better / appropriate care. The doctor mentioned IV antibiotics, but then changed their mind and left us feeling we were taking up there time and an inconvenience.

Dear Disappointed Mother - I am so sorry that you and your son had this experience. It would be really helpful if I could speak with you to understand when you came in and who you saw, so that I can follow up with the individual clinicians.
