I am a 58 yr old recovering addict. I had been in relapse for 18 years after having a couple of years in recovery and was struggling with feeling too old to try again. I was pleased to be accepted by Logan House, because of my age; I was not sure anyone would take me, and because I had seen the amazing change that had been achieved by a friend who did their program.
I had isolated myself for years, so going into a group house situation was hard. It was also good for me. The level of support I got from other residents made the difference. It took 3 weeks for me to come out of the daze I was in, having been a poly-user for a long time, and I was given the time and space I needed. I was there for three months, and have been in their transition house since. I am moving, into a place with another ex-resident next week, and will be 5 months clean.
I found the c.b.t (cognitive behavioural treatment) program to be interesting and useful, and have used this alongside the 12 step principles I had learnt before. The facilitators, and other staff at Logan house, were great, very insightful and always patient, always challenging me to progress. Since being in transition, I have been supported to move on with my life, and given the right amount of critical feedback to keep me honest and keep going. I am now studying again and generally enjoying life. I intend to stay engaged with Lives Lived Well into the future for the ongoing counseling and support they provide.
The whole process has been good, often enjoyable, I have learnt new skills and reawakened old talents along the way.
