(as the patient),

I was down from the Kimberley for a scan at Fremantle Hospital to see if my cancer has spread, after leaving the hospital I presented to the main front desk to let them know I had finished and to please send a copy to my doctor in Broome, the clerical officer or whatever they're called, replied back to me - This is ridiculous it’s a waste of tax payers money. I was not quite sure what she meant so I asked her what do you mean? Again she said sending you to Perth for a scan is a waste of tax payers money!  Gobsmacked I said - I just do what the doctor tells me to do and if you have a problem why don’t you question Professor (name) yourself? Her reply was - Oh no you don’t question Professor (name). I believe that lady needs to keep her thoughts to herself. In my opinion, not professional at all.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. I was very disappointed to hear about the behaviour of the clerical staff member with whom you spoke and I apologise on behalf of the hospital. The behaviour certainly does not uphold our values of care and respect and the comments made were not accurate.

It is important we ensure our staff are aware of appropriate behaviour and to assist us in this I would appreciate it if you could contact our Patient and Family Liaison Service on 6152 4013 or FSHFeedback@health.wa.gov.au to provide the details of the incident so we can follow up directly with staff on duty that day.
