"Why I went into care"

About: Nazareth Care Tamworth

(as the patient),

I had a bad fall in the bathroom and was unconscious for a while. When I came to, I was lying in a pool of blood from hitting my head on the metal shower drain. I staggered through to my son's room and tried to wake him, but he was out cold on drugs and alcohol, so I laid down on the bed with him and kept trying to wake him. I could not see enough to use the phone to get help. After about two hours, I managed to wake him. He was very angry at first, until he saw me, then he went into panic mode running around hiding his drug equipment before finally phoning for ambulance care. When they arrived I was taken to hospital and stayed for a few days, then I was moved to an age care facility. Eventually my daughter who lived 400 km away got me transferred to Qurindi until I could get a place at Nazereth Care. I recovered slowly and after about 12 months asked my doctor and my daughter if I could move into a self care unit. Which I did.

My care was excellent, and there were plenty of activities. I am not a person who makes friends easily, but I had one particular friend who I continued to visit after I left the house.

Every time I visited I got a really warm welcome from the staff and asked to come again.
