"My daughter's visit to the ER"

About: Geraldton Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter has an intellectual disability, and in the past I have found some of the ER doctors she saw were not very understanding or knowledgeable in treating her (I was not the only parent that felt this way).

Yesterday, due to being unable to see her own doctor after her having a fall, I had to go to GRH.

I did this with some real concerns and worry going on past experiences.

The doctor she saw, Dr Alan was amazing, extremely patient, and because her language skills are not great he examined her from head to toe.

He explored every possibility of injury and made her and me feel very comfortable and most importantly, to me, treated her as a valued person worth him spending his very busy time investigating what was wrong.

So thanks to this great doctor; I am happy that GRH now have doctors that see all people as important and equal. You have given me faith in the ER again.

Dear earthhr43

Thank you for sharing your lovely comments about you and your daughter's experience with the Geraldton Hospital Emergency Department. I was so pleased to read of your positive experience, as a mother myself I know how stressful it can be when your child is unwell and to have someone that is compassionate and caring looking after your child really does make a difference. WA Country Health Service strives to provide high quality, compassionate, professional health care and it is very uplifting to know we helped make a stressful situation a little less so.

We really do value patient feedback as it enables us to reflect on what we do well and where we need to improve, it also lets us know what is important to our health service users. Your positive experience is a great example of the work our team do every day and I will take great pride and delight in passing on your thanks and acknowledgement to Dr Alan.

Thanks again for taking the time to write and I hope your daughter is well and truly on the mend.

Warm regards

Michele
