"A breath of fresh air"

About: Royal Perth Hospital

(as the patient),

Went to R.P.H. recently for a colonoscopy; I have had two before at other hospitals. Arrived early and went through the usual tests and procedures in preparation for this procedure with the nurse.

Finally, I was wheeled into the operation theatre, a little nervous and apprehensive, (this is not open heart surgery I know, but to mature men a bit embarrassing).

I was immediately greeted by a nurse who introduced herself by name to me, then introduced the doctor, who introduced his specialist manager, and other nurses also introduced themselves to me, and after each request from them to me, finished with the words "thank you, sir".

Firstly, I felt valued, felt I was working with a cohesive and friendly team, and felt among friends, it was wonderful.

It's the little things like this, with smiling faces, that just makes so much difference.

I was not a patient, I was royalty.
