"ED experience"

About: Wonthaggi Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a relative),

My husband was brought in via ambulance following our bike ride having suffered severe leg cramps & fainting. The ambulance crew were fabulous. From the time I arrived, I was met with amazing caring staff, the lady at reception was so helpful. Once I had provided all relevant information for my husband she then organised an orderly to take me to my car via a short cut as I had parked it in the wrong area (via google maps!). The nursing staff were all very caring & attentive, keeping us well informed as to what was happening. Ben (Dr) who attended to my husband was fabulous. He provided us with great information & advice on where to go from here. Unfortunately, I believe the staff in ED never get enough praise for the amazing work they do. It can be an incredibly stressful environment to work in with critically ill patients, & patients & their family/visitors can be so rude & offensive instead of thinking ‘there must be someone sicker than me’. Well done to all the staff in ED for a great experience.

Dear foxtrottp54,

Wow - thank you so much for taking the time to write such a lovely post about your experience.

Firstly - I just have to say - I so agree with all your sentiments including how great Ambulance Victoria folk are. The community at Bass Coast is very lucky to have such skilled and compassionate paramedics.

And yes - the Emergency Department is indeed a very tough gig (and our current environment is not ideal) but it never ceases to amaze me about how blessed we are to have such high calibre staff who work hard to improve patient outcomes and experience. This includes our ward clerks, our nurses, our doctors and our cleaners. They will all feel very chuffed when they read your post and I can promise you that they come to work every day with all the right intentions to serve their community.

I hope your husband is feeling better and is back onto his bike. Thank you once again for taking the time to share your feedback.

Kind Regards,

Jan
