"My mum's care"

About: WD Thomas Activity Centre

(as a relative),

I would like to say a big thank you to the wonderful staff at the Activity Centre for the invitation to their 2018 Christmas lunch/party. It was a very delicious meal and such a warm and welcoming atmosphere. But apart from that, it was so good to see firsthand, for myself, the reasons why mum loves her days at Activity Centre so much! Mum is always telling us just how wonderful the staff/carers/bus drivers are, and how kind and friendly they are. She often says, "they look after us so well, they do everything for us", and that, "the meals are always beautiful!" From the time mum gets picked up on the bus, until the time she is assisted across the road when she returns home again, she feels loved, cared about, valued, respected – and pampered! She is always so relaxed and happy when she comes home. Thanks again – from me and her whole family – for the beautiful care of our mum.

We are so blessed to have such genuinely beautiful, dedicated people taking care of our precious ones on their days at Activity Care.

With many thanks and appreciation,

septemberdg67

Dear septemberdg67,

Thank you so much for your feedback. I do agree the Activity Centre Christmas Party was a wonderful day and the staff are truly special people. All staff in the Activity Centre work hard to uphold Kerang District Health’s values of Caring, Accountability, Respect and Excellence. It is very pleasing to hear that these values are demonstrated in such a positive way. I will forward your comments about the meal to our dedicated catering staff.

I am really interested in your mother's comment that “they do everything for us”. The aim of the Activity Program is to keep people active in the community and to keep them doing things for themselves, on a “use it or lose it” kind of philosophy. I am sure that your mother was being kind, but we do really encourage all the clients to keep an active body and mind as part of our program, on a daily basis.

Thank you again,

Sue

Dear septemberdg67,

Thank you so much for your story of your mother's experience at the WD Thomas Activity Centre. I too attended the Christmas lunch and felt very privileged to have received an invitation and to share such a happy and festive occasion with the clients and their invited friend or family member. It gave a lovely taste of the day to day experience that these clients have when attending Day Activities.

As Sue has mentioned we will be sure to pass on your comments to all the staff involved.

Kind Regards,

Chloe
