"No compassion or service by doctor"

About: Wonthaggi Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a relative),

My father is dying from an incurable heart problem. My elderly mother looks after him as they have been married 65 years. She was beside herself when gout had swollen his foot and had gone black underneath and creeping up ankle and swelling. In intense pain. Doctor that saw him 3 hours after waiting in ER, I felt was rude. Asked my father why he was here and that he should have waited to see his own doctor. And gave him a spray. That there was not much he could do and didn't know much about it. Then, in my opinion rambled out about some sort of medication and said go see your doctor.

Sorry, but I believe this is a disgrace.

Dear cygnushw49

Thank you for taking the time to speak with me this evening regarding your parent's experience. Receiving feedback about our performance is hugely important in helping us to improve our services.

I am very sorry that your parent's experience was negative and upsetting as this is not at all in line with our expectations or our Values. Our Chief Medical Officer has followed up the issues you described including inappropriate communication as well as concerns regarding treatment. As discussed, these issues will be addressed directly with the staff member concerned to ensure they do not occur again.

I hope that your father's foot continues to heal and thank you again for your feedback.

Kind Regards

Noni
