"Lack of venesection services in Albany"

About: Albany Health Campus Australian Red Cross WA

(as a relative),

My husband was diagnosed with Polycythemia vera last week and was required to have urgent venesection .  We approached the Red Cross and they told us that as he had not donated blood previously and because of his age they were unable to offer the service. Our G.P. contacted the Albany Health Campus and was told that they no longer provide this service .

Through word of mouth we have been able to have the procedure at Lake Grace Hospital which is a 5 hour round trip from Albany. My husband is required to have this treatment regularly to control his disease.

I find this lack of such a simple but essential service in a major regional city very disappointing .

Dear Discontent

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your recent experience. I am very sorry you have been caused distress at this time.

It is my understanding that there are a number of options for venesection in Albany. As such, if you are happy to speak with us we can direct you to the appropriate service.

Regards
