Last year our father was admitted to palliative care at Eastern Health Wantirna after a short battle with cancer. He was well cared for and the family were provided honest feedback and timeframes. My only concern was towards the end when he had lost the use of his legs, nurses didn't come to our aid quick enough to take him to the toilet. It was the middle of the night. Once the nurse did arrive, I was told they only had 2 nurses on and he would be showered and changed in the morning. I told them I would help bathe him and there was no way he would stay in that state all night. The overall experience my father had was a comfortable one, but they really need more staff throughout the night. We were just lucky we were sleeping the nights with him otherwise who knows what would've happened if we weren't there to assist. Some of the nurses are lovely and do a great job, they just need more support.
