"Liver transplant"

At the end of 2018 my liver completely failed due to a parasite I had caught 30 years ago (Schistosomiasis), but was not aware I had.

I required an ambulance due to acute pain, which I later found out to be peritonitis 

I was stabilised in Joondalup Hospital prior to transfer to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital for further treatment.

It was confirmed I needed a liver transplant, so the next 10 days were filled with test after test for transplant viability.

Due to someone’s unfortunate demise, I was recently gifted my second life with a transplant.

I was then encouraged to walk, which I duly did the next day. Being discharged a week later.

Throughout my stay I have had only the best of treatment, help, services, etc., from each and every staff member I encountered. I can single out Vanessa and Helen (the transplant nurse) for the highest to praises, as I was paired with them as a go-between in a trial run by the hospital. 

I've had occasion to visit many hospitals all over the world and cannot give enough praise to the WA hospitals for the caring I received from all staff involved - be it the helpers, cleaners nurses,surgeons, specialists and doctors. I hope I haven’t missed anyone out - unintentional if I have.

Daft as it sounds, but if I was sick this state is the best place in the world to be sick.
