"Fiona Stanley Hospital Outpatients Clinic 8"

About: Fiona Stanley Hospital / Pre admission Clinic & Day of Survey Admission (DOSA)

(as the patient),

After a 12 month wait to get an appointment with the Endocrinology Outpatient Clinic at Fiona Stanley Hospital, I was told by the doctor at my appointment that they could not find my test results. The doctor informed me that as the test results were not there I would have to have them done again. While in the doctor's room I called my GP to have them re-faxed. I knew they had been sent before because I had spoken to the registrar of endocrinology 3 months earlier and they were looking at my results and discussing them with my GP and I over the phone. The doctor at today's appointment then told me that it did not matter anyway because they were in a hurry to get through today's appointments because they were going on 4 weeks holiday this afternoon. The doctor did not want to wait for the fax or locate the results. I felt like I was just an annoyance to the doctor, as I was holding up their holidays. I have a tumor on my parathyroid gland. It took 3 and a half years to get a diagnosis and now it looks like it's going to take another 3 and a half years to have it removed. I cried all the way home in the car.

Dear Brew,

I am tremendously disappointed to hear of your experience in the outpatient clinic at Fiona Stanley Hospital. Please accept my sincere apologies for the distress that it has caused you. The circumstances you have described certainly do not align with the values that we expect of our staff.

Unfortunately, I do not have the details necessary to follow up directly for you, investigate what occurred or advise you of the path forward. I would very much like to investigate this situation further and work with you to ensure that you are getting the appropriate, compassionate care that we aspire to deliver to all our patients. If you would like to contact our Patient and Family Liaison Service with more information (on 6152 4013 or email fsh.feedback@health.wa.gov.au) then I will ensure that this matter is attended to as a priority.

Many thanks,

Neil Doverty
