Recently I was having a carpal tunnel surgery at Collie Hospital, my choice was to have it performed by the cuff method (to stay awake) as I have had a bad experience in the past with going under a general .
I was greeted by a lovely nurse who took me through and went through all my paper work, and while she was doing this Dr Lee arrived and started talking to me and out of no where I broke down with built up emotions about everything and grieving my dear sibling that I lost in recent months as well.
The doctors, nurses and all theatre staff were so understanding and caring.
They got me ready for theatre & did a dummy run to see if I could handle the pain of the cuff (it wasn't the pain it was the numbness) & to stay awake, but no I couldn't.
So with quiet words and peaceful surroundings they put me under, I don't remember a thing, I woke to another nurse offering me a cuppa and a sandwich
I would love to thank them all for their kindness and compassion.
I have to have my other hand done when this one has healed and I will be a lot more relaxed going in this time.
Thank you.
