"Sent home whilst having labour pains."

About: Armadale Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

Seriously disappointed with Armadale Hospital staff. I feel the staff I saw were disrespectful to patients, which is such bad behaviour in a hospital. I was having labour pains and I had been given painkiller and then they ask me to go home within 30min of my arrival. That moment was seriously upsetting for me in such a horrible painful situation how would I go home which was 20km from the hospital. I didn't think nurses were like this. Emergency department only for a serious patient and Armadale hospital nurses think that patient come for fun.

Dear In Labour,

I am very saddened to hear of your disappointment with the care you received from the Armadale Hospital. What you have described sounds very distressing and I am very sorry that you were made to feel disrespected when you were seeking help for the pain you were experiencing.

I have asked that the Emergency Department and Maternity teams review your concerns as a matter of priority. I would however very much like to follow up on your case more specifically and wonder whether you would consider contacting us to have a discussion. This can be facilitated through our Consumer Liaison Department who can be contacted on (08) 939 1153 or AKG_ConsumerLiaison@health.wa.gov.au.

Again, I am very sorry for your experience, and do hope that we hear from you soon.

Kind regards,

Ian Male

Acting Executive Director
