My parent was admitted to the Neurology Ward last year. My parent was acutely unwell and their illness was sudden and very distressing.
My parent's medical care was incredible and I cannot speak highly enough of the medical team.
Sadly the same cannot be said for the nursing care my parent and our family received. I feel my parent was treated with very little dignity or respect and little compassion. As a healthcare professional myself I felt very ashamed of my professional colleagues. I subsequently wrote to the hospital and expressed my distress and requested that my concerns be shared with the unit nurse manger. Apart from an automated response I did not receive any reply or acknowledgement of my letter or concerns. I hope the nursing culture on the ward has moved forward but fear that other families will go through the unnecessary trauma we experienced at the hands of those who core value is to care. Kindness does not cost anything and a little goes a long way.
"Poor nursing care my parent received"
