My spouse usually wakes every morning with severe eye pain associated with dry eye. First occurring after a corneal wound (garden stick) a few years ago, it slowly resolved after Excimer superficial keratectomy the following year. Recently after the pain and distress returned after cataract surgery (not at the Ear and Eye Hospital) we returned to the Ear & Eye Emergency last month as it was not improving. We were seen by Dr Trung who examined my spouse very well, showed knowledge of both Cystic Fibrosis and Sjogren's Syndrome and further corneal lubricants were tried. A repeat visit was disappointing - the eye was examined and the cornea found intact and my spouse was discharged with no further follow up scheduled. The clinician appeared not to know anything about Cystic Fibrosis and little if anything about Sjogren's. I feel the clinician was not concerned that severe pain was still occurring every morning. Despite that we are on a low income health card the plan is to force us to a private ophthalmologist (previous contact with such has been disappointing).
"Unhappy with care and discharge plan"
