Thank you for getting in contact with us. I am so sorry to hear your story! Fasting is never easy and for you it is clear we could have done better both in choices and in communication.

Currently our hospital kitchen pre-prepares food to accommodate patient’s food allergies and intolerances based on information provided during their pre-admission interview. At short notice the kitchen are able to offer some alternatives, however this is dependent on what is available at the time.

In considering your experience we are looking at how we can improve the above system.

Our Same Day Unit nurse manager is reviewing and updating the Endoscopy Care Plan and Record which will include a section required to be completed by the patient during pre-admission that will highlight any allergies, sensitivities or reactions. This should prevent further situations like the one you describe.

Again we are extremely sorry. I hope the above gives confidence that your feedback will improve the experience for patients moving forward.
