"Lack of care"

About: Bunbury Hospital

(as a relative),

My parent was recently admitted into Bunbury Hospital with some post surgery health issues affecting their mobility. When I visited four days later, my parent told me that they had not been showered or bathed since admission, not been able to brush their teeth and at times had soiled themselves as staff had not responded to their buzz when they needed to go to the bathroom. Quite often the bottle that my parent needed for toileting was placed in a bracket on the wall out of reach. My spouse and I got my parent into the bathroom and helped them shower and brush their teeth. In terms of how my parent was feeling: they were miserable and embarrassed having to rely on their child and in-law to help them shower.

In terms of how I was feeling: Extremely angry and frustrated that this could happen in a Western Australian Hospital.
