"Very poor treatment at Angliss Emergency Department"

About: Angliss Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I presented at Angliss ED with tightness of chest and shortness of breath. After explaining to the triage nurse what was going on they told me to wait and I would be seen soon as respiratory concerns always received priority. I explained my cardiac history so I was fairly concerned. After waiting for an hour without seeing anyone and watching other people being attended to with what seemed less serious symptoms, I asked how long it would be till I saw someone as in the past I have always been ushered straight in as a precautionary matter being cardiac related. I was told that they did not know as they were very busy. I explained that I was led to believe that respiratory issues always took precedence to which they just shrugged their shoulders. This matter I feel was ludicrous and unacceptable as it completely contradicts the treatment I have received before. I then had no choice but tell them that I would present somewhere else and left. I trust that you give this matter your urgent attention as consequences could be life threatening.

Awaiting your response.

Thank you.

Dear sculptorrt36,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share feedback regarding your recent experience when attending the Emergency Department at the Angliss Hospital. I am sorry it was not a positive one and that you felt your alternate was to seek treatment elsewhere.

I certainly so take your experience seriously and in order for us to follow up your particular circumstances, I would like to invite you to contact one of our Patient Relations Advisors in the Eastern Health Centre for Patient Experience either by calling 1800 EASTERN or by emailing feedback@easternhealth.org.au. If you choose to call please be aware that it is possible that the Patient Relations Advisors may be on another call at the time you ring and if so you will be invited to leave a message so they can return your call.

I hope hear from you soon sculptorrt36 and trust you were able to obtain care for your symptoms and are on the road to recovery.

Kind regards,

David.

Update posted by sculptorrt36 (the patient)

Dear David

Thank you for your time in responding to my story. I appreciate your concern and would like to advise you that I am now better. My area of concern was and still is that a person with cardiac history who has undergone open heart surgery could not get to see some one fairly promptly to at least have an ECG to determine that everything was ok which is what has happened in the past.

Kind Regards,

sculptorrt36
