"ED Triage counter"

About: Derby Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

Went to the Triage counter early one morning. There was dried smudged blood on the counter where I had my blood pressure taken. There was a weight scale near my feet which was completely filthy and the whole area was dirty and disgusting. I mentioned the blood to the nurse who didn't seem very concerned that it was there. The housekeeping needs to be lifted to a better quality.

Dear saturntd87,

First thank you for telling me about your visit to Derby Hospital - I was really disappointed to read that the Emergency Department triage area and equipment was unclean. It is certainly not how I would expect the area to be maintained.

When I read about your experience, the first action I took was to contact the Emergency Department team leader and make sure the area was clean and the scales ready for use. This has been done and all staff reminded about their role in keeping Derby Hospital clean and tidy.

The next step was I spoke to a Derby Hospital nurse, Lesley-Anne Geiger who is responsible for an audit we do regularly on how clean and tidy and prepared our hospital is. This Environmental Audit is very important to us and helps us see where we are doing well, but also where we can do better.

It is really important to me that consumers are involved in what we do at the hospital and I wondered if you would consider joining Lesley-Anne and doing this audit with us? I would really value your input! What do you think?

I would really like to talk to your more about this and would appreciate you emailing or calling me - rachele.ferrari@health.wa.gov.au or 0419 043 610. Your story is definitely going to help us do better.

Kind regards,

Rachele Ferrari
