"Positive experience with Occupational Therapy for my toddler"

About: Geraldton Community Health Service

(as a parent/guardian),

Our child care provider referred my child to Allied Health in late 2018 following a series of incidents involving my child biting other children. After an initial wait of approximately 2 months, we met with the Occupational Therapist - Rachel - who talked us through sensory processing and gave us a lot of strategies around increasing deep pressure stimulation. Over a six month period we met with Rachel a number of times and she also visited the child care centre to work with my child's educators.

Overall we had an extremely positive experience with Rachel, she was extremely professional and knowledgeable yet also very friendly and made a real and genuine effort to build rapport with my child. Rachel was very receptive to our feedback about what was and wasn't working for our family and is continuing to support my child through our child care provider. We feel very grateful for the support we have received through this service.

Dear bravozg83,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with our service on Patient Opinion. It was wonderful to read of you and your child's interaction with Rachel and the support and individual care that has been provided to your family.

The Occupational Therapists in our child development team are always striving towards best practice principles, including family centred practice and working in everyday routines. Working with parents and educators to set goals and strategies that work for their family are some of the ways we can get the best outcomes for children.

Rachel did her university placement with us a few years ago and after she graduated came on board with the Child Development Service team in 2017. Rachel is a highly valued member our team and we are very lucky to have her. I will take pleasure in passing your wonderful feedback on.

Therapy can be a long process and sharing your story on Patient Opinion is so valuable as it lets other families know that they too can achieve great outcomes.

Thank you again for taking the time to write and I wish you and your family all the very best.

Kind regards

Michele
