I went to the Emergency Department (ED) in Sydney Eye Hospital due to the sudden pain in the eyes starting in the morning. I was seen by the triage nurse and was told to wait outside to be called by the doctor. After 3 hours’ waiting, I asked the nurse how many people are there in front of me? The nurse told me the patient with the most severe problem gets to be seen by the doctor first (which I absolutely agree) and I am catergorized as level 4 which is non-emergent case and I can go to see an optometrist instead, but I can also choose to keep waiting.
What an exciting news after 3 hours’ waiting? Wouldn’t it be better if you can tell me earlier about my situation so that I do not need to worry so much about it and can save my time instead of wasting 3 hours to get nothing done?
People come to Emergency because they worry about their health and seek help, not because they want to be lectured by the correct platitudes. I would like to know the reason for not disclosing the patient’s information when they are waiting at ED.
