"Terrible experience at the Emergency Department"

About: Margaret River Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

The nurses in the Emergency Department made us feel like we were a nuisance to them being there, they made us feel like we were being over dramatic wanting to have our child to be seen by a doctor.

The doctor and nurses who attended us showed no empathy, kindness or care. They had a terrible bedside manner. What was worse was we overheard them making fun of us from the nurses station.

They did not appear to know what they were doing and, we felt, did not exhibit a sound knowledge of evidenced based practice- we felt fobbed off as over-worried parents - which we were not as we ended up spending 5 nights in a different hospital with a very sick child.

Dear sambang99

I am so sorry to hear of your experience at Margaret River Hospital. This is very unusual behaviour and not what I accept from our staff.

I would like to meet with you and hear your experience. I will then, with Dr Mark Monaghan Deputy Director of Medical Services, investigate what occurred so we can put improvements in place.

Could you please contact me on 0427 588 300.

Yours sincerely

Marie Tweedie
