"Wonderful ongoing care"

About: Echuca Hospital Kerang Hospital Kerang Medical Clinic NDCH Community Nursing & Allied Health Services

(as the patient),

Approximately 10 years ago my toe ulcerated and I have had issues with it ever since.  However with the help of doctors at Kerang Medical Clinic, nursing staff at the Kerang Hospital and staff at Northern District Community Health, it is usually under control.

Earlier this year, the toe infected again and the Doctor had to cut out the infection for it to heal. I went back to the hospital for more IV antibiotics and a 5 day stay at Kerang Hospital, it was a very pleasant stay. We went on 5 weeks holiday and I was on oral antibiotics.

Came home and finished up with a blood infection and was sent to Echuca Hospital and stayed 8 days from Critical Care to the ward. Brilliant care from all staff at Echuca Hospital, and the care they gave my spouse, can’t fault them.

I was back home when a pain in my toe started again, my spouse had a look and phoned Kerang, back to Kerang District Hospital. I must say Trish the Nurse Practitioner is amazing.

Just one complaint, I am a Private Patient and would like eggs or baked beans/spaghetti on toast for breakfast. I don’t think I am asking too much.

Dear Infected Toe,

Thank you for your feedback. It is great to hear you have been able to access quality health care when you've needed it and that your toe ulcer is being managed well. It's always wonderful to hear that people who use our services get the help they need it and that it is as appreciated as it is by yourself.

Dear Infected toe,

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your journey through the health care system. I am pleased to hear that you have been receiving excellent care, not only in Kerang, but other health care facilities as well. I am glad that we were able to get you well so that you could go on your holiday.

Kerang District Health are very fortunate to have three Nurse Practitioner's on staff, to ease the burden on our local doctors. Their knowledge, skills, and experience in a variety of health care fields means they are able to provide excellent care to both Urgent Care presentations and our Ward patients, as well as offering education and support to their colleagues. If only they could work every day! I will personally pass on your praise to Trish, which is well deserved.

I will also pass on your comments about breakfast to our catering department, and hopefully, we can find an arrangement that works for all involved.

Thank you again for your story

Kind Regards

Megan Simmonds

Dear Infected toe,

I am sorry to hear you are not satisfied with the current breakfast menu offered at our service.

This has enabled us to discuss what selections are offered and what could be offered to all patients to assist in their recovery whilst an inpatient at our hospital.

Following your feedback, a change has been planned:

A menu review will take place with the Head Chef, management and consumers to consider how we can improve the consumer experience in service delivery related to options.

If you would like to be part of the Consumer Group reviewing the menu, please contact Kerang District Health on 03 54 509200 or email: kerangdistricthealth@kerhosp.vic.gov.au

I would be more than happy to send out the information needed to assist you in becoming a member of this group for you to be able to take part in this review.

I would like to thank you for sharing your story.

Kind Regards

Wendy Vanderheiden

Dear Infected Toe,

Further update on the implementation of new menus at Kerang District Health.

Approximately 2 months ago our new menus were introduced after an extensive evaluation by an accredited dietician.

There are many new menu options available and to date we have received valuable feedback from patients, consumers and staff.

We try to accommodate everyones needs if possible.

Kind regards,

Wendy
