"Knee replacement"

About: Prince of Wales Hospital

(as the patient),

For me, the experience was a new perspective on Australia's public health services and hospitals. I was told the wait for my surgery would be more than 12 months. However, my surgeon had a cancellation and called me in within six months. Everything went very smoothly with admission and recuperation with a 4-day stay in Prince of Wales Hospital (PoW). Their Post Acute Care (PAC) included being taken home on Day 5 in their car, shown how to navigate my home - stairs, bathroom, bedroom - and use of special furniture around toilet and shower chair.

The nurses, physios and occupational carers came each week for 3 weeks to give me exercises and watch how I was getting on. Now it's 7 weeks since the operation and I am feeling well with my mobility and flexibility coming back. PoW have also enrolled me in their Hydrotherapy classes at the hospital pool. I go twice a week and it had really helped me a lot as the physios in attendance make sure we all do the movements correctly. I can't speak highly enough of the service of all the professionals I met in the ward and post-operation. My sincere thanks to all and I will never forget their kindness in those first painful days.

Hi omegarz37,

Thank you very much for this warm and positive feedback. It was particularly good to hear that the care from our Post Acute Care team was useful to you. I have passed on these kind words to the team.

All the best for your rehabilitation.
