I took my child to the Bunbury Emergency Department (ED) at the request of General Practitioner (GP). On arrival the clerk noted that I was holding an envelope and told us to sit on the red chairs so we did.
The triage nurse was busy taking the waiting patients individually into a room to assess. It took 45 minutes for my child to be triaged. At no point in the 45 minutes did anyone speak to us. No one asked to see the GP letter, or ask what my child's name was or why we were there.
The ED was busy but I think some basic information should have been collected on our arrival.
This was also the case for all the other patients I saw coming into the ED.
When seen by the ED doctor we were asked whether we had thought about seeing a GP regarding the issue.
The GP referral letter was attached to the clip board he was holding.
