"Burn to the leg that spread in hours a few hours"

About: Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

Very Painful grew bigger as time went on.

Arrived at emergency department 11.30 pm.

As pain got worse it looked bad. At booking in, nurse gave two panadol took obbs. We sat down after 2 hours nurse came and looked at it put some bacteria solution on and bandage.

They waited another 2 hours another nurse came looked at it. Then we asked how long after 3 hours waiting. We asked again as the ECU was virtually empty staff were standing around talking they told us they will be next so we stayed then doctor called someone who just walked in.

So at 4.5 hours we walked out not treated

Understandably serious patient first but we were are not doctors they could have told us to go home if it didn't need to be seen by a doctor

Seeing a doctor for the seriousness of the burn. Disappointed it was seemingly ignored a burn is serious.

Dear betasj87,

Thank you for your feedback. I am very sorry to hear of your prolonged wait in the Emergency Department (ED) waiting room and the frustration this has caused.

This is not the standard of care we aim to provide and your feedback has been forwarded to the ED team to highlight your concerns of your delay to treatment for your burn. In ED, patients are assessed by the Triage Nurse and are seen according to priority. This can continually change, and I am sorry this was not communicated to you and resulted in your prolonged wait. I hope you were followed up by your GP and provided with treatment for your burn.

If you would like us to investigate your presentation further, can you please contact our Consumer Liaison Service (Phone: 6457 2867 or email CLS@health.wa.gov.au) so we can get further details from you to initiate a detailed review of your case.

Kind regards,

Jodi Graham
