A pregnancy that was everything but straight forward. After an abnormal first trimester screening I was referred to maternal fetal medicine at KEMH.
I was left to feel scared of the future while waiting for this appointment and possible complications that were running through my mind.
I was seen quickly and was given reassurance and the all clear that my baby was as healthy as the general population risk.
Dr Scott was lovely and explained all the risks and possibilities to me to put my mind at ease.
I was referred back to MGP at KEMH and unfortunately missed out on my original placement. I attended the east wing midwifery clinic twice, where I felt lost in the system, just another number. Although the midwives were lovely, I felt that no one really read my history and regularly had to repeat many things. I didn’t feel listened to or heard and felt like everything was always rushed.
I received a call from Bec a midwife from MGP5 in December and was told there was a place for me if I’d like to continue my pregnancy care with MGP5. I accepted and was so happy to be back with MGP team. MGP5 care was exceptional and I felt like I was part of a family, with midwives who knew me and my history. Having a familiar face each visit and meeting the team put me at ease.
Towards the end of my pregnancy my baby stopped growing and I was referred back to the doctor clinic at east wing with regular ultrasounds and CTGs. My baby developed Inter uterine growth restriction and started to become compromised, therefore, was recommended to be induced. My MGP5 midwife Anika and the team supported me through this next step. I had an MGP midwife during my doctor’s appointment to help me understand and support me through next steps and making decisions and planning my delivery of my baby.
My induction, like my pregnancy was not without its difficult moments. The first balloon failed. The initial midwives who inserted the balloon were lovely, although did not look or sound confident with the balloon insertion which made me feel unsure and uncomfortable. When the balloon fell out with in a hour of being inserted I then waited another 5 hours before anyone came to tell me and my husband what the next plan was. However, I was reassured by the medical team and we tried again with the balloon, which did work. My husband felt like the doctor in charge took control of the situation which made myself and my husband feel reassured and that I and our baby was safe.
During my labour once again I had the support of my MGP5 midwife and team. A big thank you to Bri and Belinda who supported me through my labour and delivery. They were caring and confident and always took the time to explain everything to me and my husband. Even though my birth was not at all what I thought would happen; baby was compromised on CTG and I required a quick forceps delivery after I quickly progressed to fully dilated. I felt like I was looked after well by my MGP5 midwife team and the medical doctors and I and my baby are healthy. Big thank you to Doctor Sheeba! My husband thinks you are a rock star!
I was admitted to ward 3 after and could not fault the care I received by the midwives on ward 3. Even though the ward felt and looked busy the midwives never made me feel like I was not being rushed and they always had time for me and my baby to answer questions and assist me when necessary.
The support I received through MGP5 team was everything I needed during this roller coaster pregnancy and birth. I don’t think I would have mentally managed without the support of my primary midwife Anika and the other lovely midwives Bec, Ginny, Belinda and Bri. You all made me feel safe, supported and listened too throughout this journey. A big thank you from the bottom of my heart.
